How to Create a Free Virtual Wifi Hotspot on Your Laptop

Suppose a group of people get together in a meeting room or at a boring party with only one network connection there and no wireless routers in sight. If you happen to have a laptop and you know how to create a virtual WiFi hotspot on it, then everybody's WI-Fi-enabled devices can connect to the Internet and do whatever they want to do. Here is a solution for you to turn your laptop into a virtual WiFi hotspot.
Detailed instructions after the jump.

EditSteps

  1. 1
Make sure you have a laptop or a computer with wireless adapter, the Internet connection to laptop could be wired or wireless.
  2. 2
Go download a software to help create the hotspot. Virtual Wifi Hotspot is recommended, as it's free and it works on Windows XP, Vista, 2008, 7 and 8.
  3. 3
Install the software as suggested and launch it.
  4. 4
Select a security connected mode. AdHoc-OPEN means other devices don't need password to connect to the hotspot you created; AdHoc-WEP only allows connection with password.
  5. 5
Click "Start Hotspot" and then the virtual WiFi hotspot created.
  6. 6
Get other devices like laptop, smartphone, iPhone, iPod Touch, PDA, Wii, NDS etc. connected to this hotspot you just created.
  7. 7
Share the free Internet connection with your family, friends or co-workers in places like home, meeting rooms, hotels, coffee shops, campus etc.

EditTips

  • Devices connecting to the created hotspot should be WiFi enabled and remember to turn on the WiFi to search for the hotspot.
